Housing
Around the country, and here in Palm Beach and Broward County, people are struggling to find the money to buy a home. Over the last several years, and especially in the wake of the pandemic, housing prices have soared while wages have struggled to keep up with inflation. Increasingly in America there are fewer and fewer homes available, and they are getting more and more expensive.
The median home price in Broward County is now over $419,000. Meanwhile, 1 in 5 people in Fort Lauderdale are living in poverty. This fact paints an unfortunate future for those who are already struggling.
There must be action to meet this crisis. With Americans around the country being priced out of their neighborhoods and towns, leaders around the country are dutybound to provide solutions.
I have wasted no time in working to deliver solutions:
- Requested over $32 Million in Community Funding Projects to the House Appropriations Committee to combat the housing crisis in our district
- Delivered $3.9 million in rent and mortgage assistance for Broward residents experiencing a financial crisis
- Delivered $350,000 for the City of Tamarac's 1st Time Homebuyers Assistance Program
-Fought for $3 million to more than double the capacity for Broward County overnight homeless shelters
- Introduced the Federal Disaster Housing Stability Act to prevent evictions and foreclosures during periods of national disaster
- Led efforts to ensure existing resources get to those who need it the most. $676 million from the Homeowner’s Assistance Fund has been allocated to the state of Florida by the Treasury Department.
