Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick Delivers $1,666,279 in Funding to the City of Tamarac for the Rehabilitation and Rebuild Program

TAMARAC, FL – Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick joined the City of Tamarac’s Commissioners to announce $1,666,279 in essential Community Project Funding for the city’s Rehabilitation and Rebuild Program.
“Nobody should have to choose between putting food on the table or fixing a roof. Today, we are taking a significant step to ensure that doesn’t happen,” said Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick. “With this funding, we are helping households in need of emergency roof replacements and other safety-related repairs. These funds will go directly toward securing safe, decent, and affordable homes for those who need them most.”
"The Tamarac community is very thankful to Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick for her hard work towards supporting affordable housing options. Without these funds, many families will not have a decent, safe, and sanitary place to call home or experience the joy of homeownership,” said Carolyn Francis-Royer, Tamarac's Housing & Community Development Manager. “This funding will certainly strengthen our affordable housing programs, allowing us to positively impact more families by bringing hope and a sense of security."
Rising construction costs have made critical repairs, such as roof replacement and other major systems, increasingly challenging to afford. Homeowners are also facing pressure from insurance companies to complete roof repairs within 90 days to avoid losing coverage. The Tamarac Rehabilitation and Rebuild Program will help Tamarac’s low-to-moderate-income families, who are in jeopardy of having their home insurance canceled because they cannot afford to make these necessary safety-related repairs to their homes. With 250 households currently on the waiting list for emergency roof replacements, this funding is urgently needed.
The funding for the City of Tamarac was included in Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick’s requests for Community Project Funding (CPF) in Fiscal Year (FY) 2024. The requests delivered over $14.4 million in critical resources for Florida’s 20th Congressional District to address some of the district’s most pressing needs.
