WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) issued the following statement in response to the ongoing redistricting efforts across the country, emphasizing the deep implications these changes have for democracy, equity, and the future of communities like those in Florida’s 20th Congressional District.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last week, Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) led a group of Democratic colleagues in introducing the Stop Stealing Our Jobs Act, to fight back against the Trump administration’s plan to use a government shutdown as pretext to fire large numbers of federal employees. WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL), Ranking Member of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, issued the following statement on the two-year anniversary of the October 7th terrorist attack.
“At midnight, government funding expired. This is deeply disheartening. While shutdowns are not new, each time it happens, it sends the same painful message: too often, leaders in Washington put ego and politics ahead of the people we are meant to serve.
“The American people should never have to suffer because Republicans, who control Congress, cannot come together on the most basic priorities—like ensuring affordable healthcare and protecting the jobs that sustain working families.
"There is no place in our democracy for rhetoric that incites harm-especially from those elected to serve the public and uphold our Constitution.
"Political violence, in any form and against anyone, is a direct threat to our democratic values.
"Violence from elected officials? Not today, not ever. Leaders who promote violence are a threat, not an example. We don't accept threats. We stand together, speak out, and protect our democracy."

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) released the following statement after voting against the resolution honoring the life of Charlie Kirk.
“The murder of Charlie Kirk was vile and horrific. This is not the America I know, where people are afraid to voice their political views. While there are many parts of Charlie’s life that should be celebrated, he also demonized minorities and insulted Black women and men. His rhetoric was hateful, and I do not believe we should celebrate that kind of language.
