Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick Delivers $750,000 in Funding for the City of North Lauderdale’s Law Enforcement License Plate Reader System

TAMARAC, FL – Today, Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick joined the City of North Lauderdale to announce $750,000 in critical Community Project Funding that the city has received for the implementation of a License Plate Reader System.
“Improving our community’s safety and security is one of my top priorities,” said Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick. “I was proud to deliver this critical funding, which will significantly enhance the capabilities of our law enforcement by allowing officers to respond to crime even more quickly and effectively. By equipping our law enforcement agencies with more efficient and sophisticated technology, we are taking a critical step in our ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of our neighborhoods. This funding is part of my commitment to protect, build, and deliver for Florida’s 20th Congressional District.”
"I am deeply grateful to Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick for her unwavering support and dedication to the safety and well-being of our community,” said North Lauderdale Mayor Samson Borgelin. This $750,000 federal appropriation for license plate readers is a historic milestone for North Lauderdale, significantly enhancing our public safety efforts. This investment not only marks the first federal appropriation in our city's 61-year history but also underscores our commitment to utilizing advanced technology to protect our residents. Together, we are building a safer and more secure future for North Lauderdale."
The License Plate Reader System will deliver real-time information to law enforcement on vehicles entering and exiting the city through a complete city-wide permanent pole-mounted license plate reader system, as well as a variety of mobile license plate readers. These reader systems are an integral law enforcement tool that uses technology to scan, read, and send information to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office Real Time Crime Center and then back to the Deputies on the street both in real-time and for investigative needs.
The funding for the City of North Lauderdale was included in Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick’s requests for Community Project Funding (CPF) in Fiscal Year (FY) 2024. The requests delivered over $14.4 million in critical resources for Florida’s 20th Congressional District to address some of the district’s most pressing needs. This is the first time the City of North Lauderdale has been awarded Federal Appropriations funding in its 61-year history.
