Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick's Statement on the Tragic Passing of Senior Airman Roger Fortson 

TAMARAC, FL – Today, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick (FL-20) issued the following statement on the tragic passing of Senior Airman Roger Fortson. 

“It is with profound sadness that I extend my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of U.S. Senior Airman Roger Fortson. He served our nation with honor and dedication in the United States Air Force. His death is a tragic and unimaginable loss for his family, his community, and our country.    

As a ranking member of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs, I firmly believe we must do better to prevent such senseless tragedies from happening. Law enforcement officers have a duty to protect and serve all members of our community, including those who have sacrificed for our country. My office is closely monitoring this case and will advocate for any reforms that the Department of Law Enforcement and State Attorney’s Office investigations reveal are necessary. We owe it to Senior Airman Fortson and every service member to protect them as steadfastly as they protect us.   

To the Fortson family: You are in my prayers during this incredibly difficult time. I promise to honor Roger's legacy by working towards a future where tragedies like this are prevented.”
