Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick’s Statement on the Passing of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick issued the following statement on the passing of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.

"Words cannot express the profound loss and sadness we are experiencing. Sheila was a friend and a true champion of justice. We were the two Sheilas in Congress; both born in January, lawyers, originally from Queens, NY, and of Caribbean roots representing the South.

She always said she would be there for me if I needed her, and she was. Thank you for your friendship and mentorship. Thank you for all you have done for the people of Texas’s 18th congressional district.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to her husband, Dr. Elwyn Lee, her two children, Jason and Erica, and her entire family. Rest in Power, Congresswoman Jackson Lee.  Your impact on our nation and the world will never be forgotten."
