Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick Statement on the Passing of Former Congresswoman Mia Love

March 24, 2025

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick issued the following statement on the passing of former Congresswoman Mia Love.

“I am saddened to hear of Mia Love’s passing. She was a trailblazer in every sense of the word — a barrier-breaker and visionary who pushed forward so that more Black women could pursue elected office.

“Our paths to Washington began with a similar upbringing. We both were raised by Haitian immigrants who came to New York City to pursue the American Dream and instilled in us a deep belief in the promise of this nation that we have had the honor of serving in Congress.

“I extend my deepest condolences to her husband, Jason, and their three children, Alessa, Abigaile, and Peyton, as well as to the communities she served. May God bless her.”
