Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick Statement on Hamas Terrorist Attack Against Israel

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick issued the following statement on the attack from Hamas against Israel.

“I am holding in my heart the people of Israel, who have endured a barbaric and unconscionable cascade of violence. Our strongest ally in the Middle East has been forced to confront a heartbreaking and senseless act of terror — one which has taken over a thousand innocent lives across the country. Dozens of Israelis, including women and children, have been kidnapped at the hands of a vile terrorist organization. The images and videos that continue to come out of Israel are gut-wrenching and painful for all Americans.

Let me be clear, I condemn this immoral, inhumane, despicable, and unprovoked violence. Hamas continues to impose its reign of terror over not just Israelis, but also the Palestinian people in Gaza. For too long, Palestinians have been forced to endure a tyrannical and violent regime. My heart is with the innocent civilians who have found themselves in the middle of this conflict. I trust that Israel will do everything possible to prevent the loss of civilian life as it has done in the past. My hope is that both Israelis and Palestinians can one day live a life, free of fear, without Hamas terrorizing them.  

I remain unequivocally committed to ensuring that Israel has what she needs to defend herself from this detestable assault, and to provide security for its people. America will always side with Israel in its war against Hamas.”
