Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick Appointed to Transportation and Infrastructure Committee
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick released the following statement after being appointed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee:
Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick was appointed to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure by the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi. As part of her service on this committee, the Congresswoman will serve on the House Subcommittee on Highway and Transit and the House Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment.
Speaker Pelosi, when announcing the appointment said “Her constituents have benefited from her tireless advocacy on behalf of South Florida students, workers and veterans. Bringing her passion to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, she will continue to be a key voice for upgrading our nation’s infrastructure and advancing justice in Florida communities.”
In response to this appointment Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick said “I look forward to serving on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and working to meet the infrastructure challenges that the United States and communities in my district are facing. It was just over a year ago that Fort Lauderdale experienced the largest sewage spill in Florida’s history due to faulty pipes from the 1970s, and every day over 210,000 vehicles travel on I-95, a key roadway in Palm Beach County. Our community deserves an advocate on this committee, and I look forward to working with the Committee and its Chairman, Rep. Peter A. DeFazio, on ensuring that we make forward looking investments that serve the people of my district and the United States.”
The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure oversees the Department of Transportation (DOT), the U.S. Coast Guard, Amtrak, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Economic Development Administration, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and others. The Committee additionally sees all bills relating to modes of transportation and all aspects of our national infrastructure.
