(FL-20) – Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick is uplifting Pompano Beach resident, Pastor George Rich, as her Hometown Hero virtual guest to President Biden’s State of the Union Address to Congress today. Pastor George’s story is an echo of the gratitude many community leaders share across the nation. He is grateful for President Biden’s Covid Relief Response programs which allowed his congregants to return to a sense of normalcy for church, work, and life. Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick also selected West Palm Beach Small Business family member, Kimberly Weston, as a Hometown Hero, to share her family’s story of surviving the pandemic as a result of President Biden’s strategic response to Covid.

The State of the Union Address will highlight the achievements and work still to be done under the leadership of President Biden. While safety protocols mean this year’s in-person attendance will be limited, Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick said inviting Pastor George and Kimberly Weston as her virtual guests is an important way to honor the people of Florida’s 20th Congressional District and uplift their stories.

“Our country has made tremendous strides this past year thanks to the American Rescue Plan and the Infrastructure Law. So, for this year’s State of the Union Address I wanted to highlight two of the millions of hardworking Americans whose perseverance in the face of the challenges presented by the pandemic fueled our nation’s historic recovery. People like my guests, Pastor George and Kimberly, are the true heroes behind America’s progress over the past year, and I am proud to uplift them as my virtual guests to the State of the Union Address,” said Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick.

“As a pastor, I’m privileged to serve people—often in the toughest times of their lives, but these programs allowed us to bounce back! Thank you to President Joe Biden for these efforts. Also, thank you to Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick for continuing to do what is just and what is right for District 20. God bless you.” said Pastor George, who plans to watch the speech at home in Pompano Beach.

“As a thirty plus year family small business, I’ve watched my parents work extremely hard to build a legacy for our family. Thanks to President Biden’s strategic response to Covid our small business survived the pandemic. I’m proud to say we are still here serving our community and thriving!” said Kimberly Weston, who plans to watch the speech with family in West Palm Beach.
