Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick's Statement on President Biden Declaring that the Equal Rights Amendment is the Law of the Land

WASHINGTON D.C. - Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick issued a statement applauding President Biden for declaring that the Equal Rights Amendment is the law of the land. 

“President Biden has answered the calls of generations of Americans by declaring the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) as law. This historic victory has been decades in the making to cement gender equality in the Constitution. 

By recognizing the ERA as the law of the land, President Biden is sending a clear message that America must secure the rights of all women and end systemic inequalities that prevent equal opportunity between genders. With the ERA in the Constitution, gender-based discrimination can be struck down, protecting women from harmful injustices such as stripping away their access to healthcare.  

I urge the Archivist of the United States to act on the will of the American people and certify the ERA as part of the Constitution. We must protect the fundamental rights of women.”
