Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick’s Statement on the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick (FL-20) issued the following statement on the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act.
“While I unequivocally support security assistance for Israel, House Republicans led by Speaker Johnson put forward an extremist and reckless supplemental package. Their proposal would increase the deficit by $12.5 billion over the next decade, slash IRS funding, and allow millionaires to cheat on their taxes. Not only is it a disaster for working families, but it also establishes an alarming precedent by conditioning national security needs on partisan poison pill provisions.
Instead of playing petty political games at the expense of both the American people and Israel, Republicans should have done what is best for America and our partners overseas. I look forward to supporting a bipartisan supplemental package that includes funding for our strongest ally in the Middle East and does not abdicate our responsibility as the leader on the global stage. As Americans, we must rise above brinkmanship and do better for our allies.”
