Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick’s Statement on the Anniversary of The January 6 Insurrection

WASHINGTON D.C. – Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick issued the following statement on the anniversary of the January 6 Insurrection.
"Four years ago, a violent mob attacked the United States Capitol in a coordinated effort to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power. Over 140 police officers were injured, and five lost their lives as a result of that day. Today, we remember the tragedy and honor the bravery of our law enforcement, who responded.
We must all recommit to protecting our democracy from those who would undermine it. The peaceful transfer of power is a hallmark of our Democracy, and we must abide by it, no matter how we feel about the outcome of an election.
We can never forget the lessons of January 6, 2021, preciously cherish and protect the values and principles of our democracy. We must work together to reject violence and authoritarianism in all its forms as we build a future grounded in justice and equality."
