Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick Statement on Suspension of State Attorney Monique Worrell

TAMARAC, FL — Today, U.S. Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick issued the following statement on Governor DeSantis’ suspension of State Attorney Monique Worrell:
“This shameless abuse of power from the Governor is infuriating, but unsurprising. The sudden suspension of State Attorney Monique Worrell, a duly elected prosecutor and the only Black woman serving as State Attorney, is a chilling reminder that the best interests of Floridians have taken a backseat to an extremist right-wing agenda.
Time and time again, the Governor continues to attack fundamental freedoms and diminish the voices of Floridians. Voting is a sacred constitutional right — one that must be left untouched. Governor DeSantis is setting a dangerous precedent, robbing Florida voters of the ability to participate in the electoral process and stripping public servants of their power. We must ask ourselves, who is next?
Floridians deserve real solutions to the challenges at hand — not barefaced attempts to circumvent our democratic processes. State Attorney Worrell must be reinstated without delay.”
