Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick Lowers Health Care Costs for District 20
Historic Inflation Reduction Act Already Reducing Kitchen Table Costs for Families
District 20 – Today Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick shared new data on the impact of the historic Inflation Reduction Act, which they championed, in lowering health care costs.
In August, the Inflation Reduction Act passed with Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick’s support. It slashes kitchen table costs for working families in District 20. The historic legislation forces pharmaceutical companies to negotiate lower drug prices, caps insulin at $35 per month for Medicare patients, and cuts health insurance premiums for millions of Americans.
“I know that health care costs are too high, which is why I have worked with my fellow Democrats to take on the special interests and slash prices,” said Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick.“With the Inflation Reduction Act, we are putting People Over Politics by taking on special interests to help Floridians. I’ll keep fighting for these critical cost reductions, which extreme MAGA Republicans have promised to try to reverse to benefit Big Pharma.”
According to Congress’ Joint Economic Committee, because of Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick’s support of the Inflation Reduction Act:
- 90,000 people in Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick’s Congressional district are accessing affordable health care coverage.
- 102,000 seniors in Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick’s Congressional district will soon pay less for their medications, including having their out-of-pocket costs capped and paying no more than $35 a month for insulin.
Extreme Republicans opposed this cost-reducing bill, which received no Republican votes in either the House or the Senate. House Republicans have also announced that they will repeal the Inflation Reduction Act, threatening affordable health care for millions of Americans and raising seniors’ drug prices while handling a multibillion giveaway to Big Pharma.
