Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick Issues Statement on Southwest Airlines Flight Cancellations

December 29, 2022

FORT LAUDERDALE After Southwest Airlines (“Southwest”) canceled thousands of flights during the holiday season, Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL), a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, issued the following statement.

“The complete meltdown of Southwest Airlines during the holiday season is unacceptable. Tuesday, 85 Southwest flights were cancelled at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The collapse of their flight schedule has left customers, families, and hardworking Southwest employees stranded at airports over the holiday travel period. Additionally, I am deeply troubled by reports of Southwest’s lack of prompt customer service to help passengers get to their destinations.”

“As a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I am committed to getting the American people the answers they deserve. I commend Secretary Buttigieg’s assurance to customers that the Department of Transportation will hold Southwest accountable and ensure this failure does not happen again.”
