Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick released the following statement regarding a FEMA grant totaling $15,415,393.62 for emergency protective measures because of the COVID-19 Pandemic:

“Today, I am pleased to announce a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The grant is for $15,415,393.62 in federal funding for emergency protective measures because of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

“The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic created an immediate threat to the public health and safety of the state of Florida. In response FDEM utilized Contract Labor to eliminate or reduce the spread of the virus. FDEM utilized contracted labor with requisite training, skills, and knowledge to manage, operate and staff the State’s medical response at 22 drive-up sites, seven (7) drive-up/walk-up sites, nine (9) pop-up sites and 53 walk-up sites. This included, but was not limited to hospitals, alternate care sites, and testing centers.

“Tasks completed included disease testing, diagnosis, and treatment in response to COVID-19. The costs of this project only cover the staffing contracts to implement the emergency protective measures.
