Rep. Cherfilus-McCormick Releases Statement on Redistricting “This Isn’t Just About Maps. It’s About Our Future”

October 16, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) issued the following statement in response to the ongoing redistricting efforts across the country, emphasizing the deep implications these changes have for democracy, equity, and the future of communities like those in Florida’s 20th Congressional District.

“This attempt to pack, crack, and racially gerrymander districts are a blatant attack on the past 60 years of progress toward equity and accessibility for individuals to exercise the right to vote.

“I represent one of the most diverse districts in the nation, from Fort Lauderdale to West Palm Beach, home to vibrant Caucasian, Haitian, Caribbean, Latino, Asian, African Americans and immigrant communities. Redistricting must reflect every voice — not suppress or erase them.

“Right now, we are seeing maps that try to silence, divide, and erase. And I’m here to say: we will not be erased.

“Redistricting is not just a racial or political issue. It is a fundamentally American issue, and I remain committed to defending the principle of fairness — the cornerstone of our democracy.”
